What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a 3000-year-old medicine originating from Ancient China. We use extremely fine needles in specific locations all over the body to treat various physical and mental conditions. Nothing is added through the needles, instead the stimulation of these points promotes your body’s natural ability to heal itself and rebalance.
Chinese Medicine theory views the body holistically, so your practitioner may ask you questions about all areas and workings of the body. This allows us to form a treatment plan and point prescription that is specific to your body and its unique needs.
While many patients find us to support them with recovery, Chinese Medicine places an important emphasis on preventing disease and keeping the body healthy.

The most common misconception about acupuncture is the size of the needles. If you are imagining scary hospital needles, stop! Our needles are as fine as a strand of hair and many people do not even feel them as they enter the body.
We may use some techniques to stimulate the acupuncture points, many people describe this sensation as a tingling, warmth, electrical or similar. There should be no pain during your treatment.

The amount of treatments you will need will depend completely on the condition you are coming with, how long you have had it, and your body’s unique ability to heal.
Many patients receive a treatment once or twice a week for 4-12 treatments. Then once their body has adjusted to the new pattern, many people come fortnightly or monthly to maintain their health, prevent relapse and just because they enjoy it!

The simple answer is, absolutely! Acupuncture can be extremely helpful for easing symptoms during pregnancy, preparing the body for birth and during labour. We have an adjustable couch and the tools to make you comfortable at all stages of your pregnancy.
If you are trying to conceive or are pregnant, please let your practitioner know as there are some points that are contraindicated during pregnancy.

Please ensure you have a substantial meal some time before your appointment, do not arrive with an empty stomach! Stay hydrated during the day.
Wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes if possible, if they can roll up to the elbows and knees easily that is perfect.
If possible, arrive 15-5 mins before your treatment time. We have some delicious herbal teas in our waiting room, so help yourself and allow some time to relax after your travel instead of rushing straight onto the treatment bed!

Acupuncture can affect each person differently. Some people feel very energised, some relaxed and some feel tired, especially if it is your first time having acupuncture.
Please take note of how you feel and let your practitioner know. If you are able to take some time off to relax and enjoy the after-effects of your treatment, we recommend you do so. It is best to avoid intense exercise, alcohol and drugs after, as this will negate the effects of your treatment.
-
Please inform your practitioner of any delay, if possible. Your session may be cancelled if they have not heard from you within 15 minutes of the agreed appointment time. Late arrival may result in reduced treatment time or forfeiting of the appointment if it is not feasible to start the session. Where possible, your practitioner will do all they can to provide a treatment for you.
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please contact us. We operate a 24 hour cancellation policy and failure to cancel or rearrange before the 24 hours will result in the loss of the treatment and a charge of the full cost of treatment.
-
Please check with your health provider before your appointment about what your insurance covers. It may be able to cover the cost of your treatments.
You will be responsible for paying after your treatment, and we will provide you with the receipts you need to claim the amount back with your insurance provider.

Verity Barltrop
BSc (Hons), MBAcC
I graduated from the University of Westminster in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine: Acupuncture. I am a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC) and adhere to their strict Codes of Professional Conduct and Safe Practice, accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). This ensures that my patients receive safe, ethical, and high-quality care at every stage of their treatment.
I first discovered the benefits of acupuncture when struggling with a health issue that conventional approaches had not been able to resolve. After experiencing first-hand how acupuncture could restore balance, ease discomfort, and improve my overall well-being, I felt inspired to learn more and ultimately to dedicate my career to helping others achieve the same sense of relief.
Over the years, I have developed extensive clinical experience supporting people of all ages ranging from seven years old to eighty eight years old, and work with a wide range of physical and emotional conditions. I have a particular passion for working with pain management, fertility (assisted or un-assisted), and mental health.
Whether you are seeking relief from a specific condition or simply wish to improve your overall well-being, my goal is to create a calm, supportive environment where you can begin your journey toward better health.

I am a registered member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the Academy of Scalp Acupuncture (ASA) and a recognised Healthcare Provider for the WPA.
I was raised in a household firmly grounded in Western medicine. My father was an internal medicine doctor, and a truly exceptional one. Growing up alongside his work, I developed a deep respect for modern medicine and for those who practise it. With time however, I became increasingly aware of how often people live with complex health concerns that lack clear explanation. Many struggle with multiple, overlapping symptoms that gradually take a toll on their strength and quality of life. In these situations, Western medicine can sometimes have limited options to offer.
It was through these experiences that I came to believe deeply in the value of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Its emphasis on looking beyond isolated symptoms and focusing on the whole person, and on the balance and connection of the entire body can offer meaningful support when conventional explanations fall short.
My passion for acupuncture comes from this belief: that by treating the person as a whole, rather than simply suppressing symptoms, we can help awaken the body’s natural strength and resilience. My aim is to support people in restoring balance and vitality by caring for body and mind as one.
As Hippocrates said: “Natural forces within us are the true healers of disease.”
“This is such a calming and safe place to come for healing of all kinds. I am so thankful to Acupuncture for all it has done for my health, I would recommend it to anyone.’’
